Hanko Events

The Hangon Regatta has been a traditional fixture on the Finnish social scene, and is the major summer event in Hanko.

Sailing enthusiasts attend in order to compete, as well as mostly young people who have very little or no interest in sailing, and attend only in order to party and drink.

The latter constitute the "Regatta tail", not appreciated by most of the town's residents, and which causes huge expenses for clean-up of the parks and streets.

Other traditional summer activities are the "Tennis Week", the "Sea Horse" riding competitions, and the "Summer Theatre" events.

Several sandy beaches and a multitude of leisure harbors attract tourists during the summer months.

Getting to Hanko Ferry port

If you are traveling from Helsinki by car, you take the Highway 51. By Karis town, turn to Highway 53 and continue to Hanko. 

If you are traveling from Turku, follow the Motorway 1, direction Helsinki. By town Salo, turn to Highway 52 and by town Tammisaari to Highway 53 and then continue to Hanko.

Superfast offers a bus service between Hanko and Helsinki.

Get In - Hanko is primary notable as a port, with regular car ferry services to Rostock in Germany. There is limited commuter train service from Karjaa, on the main Helsinki-Turku line, or you can opt for a direct bus from either city. All options take roughly two hours.
