Cheaper meals on offer to France ferry travellers

Travellers catching ferries to France this year will be able to save money on eating out following a recent reduction in VAT.

The rate of tax added on to the price of meals in restaurants and cafes in France has been cut from 19.6 per cent to 5.5 per cent, bringing it in line with taxation on food sold in supermarkets.

NorthLink seeks worthy causes

NorthLink Ferries is now seeking applications for £50,000 of free travel and discounted fares as part of its annual sponsorship for islanders. 

The ferry company wants individuals, charities, sporting groups or musicians in the north isles to make the most of the offer, which runs from October to March 2008.

Brittany Ferries is entering the art world. The company has arranged for 200 original works of art on board to be display on their flagship, Pont Aven, and is offering audio-guides with a commentary to help passengers discover the background to each piece.

Corsica Ferries says France abused power over aid to SNCM to file EU complaint. Corsica Ferries said the French government has abused its power in granting millions in restructuring aid to state-run ferry operator Societe Nationale Corse-Mediterranee (SNCM) and confirmed that it intends to file a formal complaint with EU regulators.
